Oh, Starry Night!

                            Van Gogh

This next project that we did was inspired from Vince Van Gogh famous art piece, Starry Night.  By using tissue paper, we had to create some sort of landscape of our choice.  We could use multiple different colors for our sky and landscape.  By using a modge podge, a type of paste, we painted over the tissue paper to give a glossy look which created a smooth top coat.  After that we had to use a different medium to create movement in our piece.  In my piece, I used a silver sharpie to create dots in the empty black spaces to make it look like the sky was moving.  I also used the sharpie to created more grass in the bottom landscape.  Lastly we had to use construction paper to cut out different buildings to paste on our landscape.  I chose to do a country landscape, and added two silos on the left, a fence, and a farm house on the right.
This was such a fun project to use!  This could be used in a different curriculum, like social studies, to help elementary students learn about different types of landscapes and seasons.  It would be fun to talk about a dessert landscape, and have the students recreate what they think a dessert would look like based off what they have learned.  Also would be cool to have them design a mountain landscape in the winter; because it would allow them to each be different and unique and express their ideas of the different types of landscapes.
