One idea to implement art history into my elementary classroom would be to read stories to my students about the different artists. Each week I would pick out a book, or a series of books, about an artists who could be our "Artist of the Week" and we would talk about the different types of work they do. At the end of the week, I would have my students put together a project/creation similar to the artistic styles of the Artist of the Week. Rather than taking just one big chunk of time, we would ration the time out during the week, letting the students really get to know the artist and their contributions, then they will get to apply what they have learned with a fun hands on project!
